INTRODUCTION

My name is Ed Scallon, and I was the Merit Badge Counselor for this session of the Boy Scouts of America Fingerprinting Merit Badge. Like any other skill, knowledge and practice develops the essential tools needed to succeed. Fingerprinting is currently the world wide recognized method of personal identification. Historically, in ancient times, curiosity surrounded the ridges discovered on the palmer surface of the hands. Over the course of human events, there were several theories to explain their presence. During history there were several attempts to use these finger ridges, but it wasn't until 1897 that two investigators developed a scientific postulate which later was adopted and is now known as the Henry System of Fingerprint Classification. Azizul Haque  and Hem Chandra Bose, two Indian fingerprint experts are credited with the primary development of the Henry System of fingerprint classification. The system Haque and Bose developed was named for their supervisor, Edward Richard Henry. This session did cover all Five Retirements including its history.
Most, if not all, Scout Shops are still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you do not have a copy of the Boy Scout of America Merit Badge Series FINGERPRINTING, with the permission of the BSA, I have scanned the booklet so you can download it, print it and read it.
Below are some helpful links that Scouts utilized as an introduction of what they experienced during the session. I also provided some examples of sample answers to the requirement(s). They are presented in order, following the required elements outlined in your Fingerprinting Merit Badge Series Booklet. Through the efforts of the Narragansett Counsel BSA Executive Liaison we can hold this Session using Zoom. Good Luck and Have fun.

Any problems with this web site -or- if the below links don't work, HAVE YOUR PARENT, SCOUT MASTER -or- UNIT LEADER leave me a note below, and I will correct the problem.
