My name is Ed Scallon, and I was the Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America Radio Merit Badge Session held at Camp Norse, Kingston, MA on August 13, 2022. Like any other skill, knowledge and practice develops the essential tools needed to succeed. Amateur Radio, the center of gravity of our Sessions, requires a workable understanding of electronics and a rather unique method of communication. During this session, all ELEVEN (11) Scouts utilized their knowledge and experiences in preperation for this session by reading the BSA Radio Booklet. During the session each Scout prepared their own evaluation sheet which was initiled by myself as each completing the requied requirements. I also provided some examples of sample answers to the requirement(s). The required elements were presented in order, following the required elements outlined in your Radio Merit Badge Series Booklet. Through the efforts of the Narragansett Counsel BSA Executive Liaison / Chairman of the Merit Badge Mania weekend, we held this Session in the "Dinning Hall". In conjunction with the Radio Merit Badge requirements, the Scouts were eager to learn more theory, so electrical engineering principals were incorporated into the lecture. The good new is that after completing this Session, the Scouts are able to "sit" for their FCC Technician's Class Amateur Radio License.

It was great fun and all of the eleven scouts passed the required elements to earn their Radio Merit Badge. From a Counselor's perspective, this group of Scouts were an exceptional group with a thirst for knowledge of Radio both Amateur Radio as well as Broadcast Radio.
